The company was founded by Rubin Simons with a focus on applying an open source way of thinking to datacenter automation. The main idea is that a given infrastructural solution like authentication, deployment, backups and storage should be provided in a way that allows all systems within the environment to use one solution only, as opposed to separate infrastructural solutions for every operating environment. For example, it is not uncommon to see things like three separate deployment environments (one for Linux, one for Windows, one for Solaris or HP-UX) or two separate authentication backends (like LDAP or NIS for UNIX and Active Directory for Windows). RAAF Technology provides infrastructural solutions and best practices that allow for optimal integration within diverse operating environments and has the expertise to implement these solutions. For its open source software RAAF Technology sells support contracts and provides engineering expertise to companies with medium to large computer system infrastructures.
